I wasted no time beginning the last day of 2012. Even though I was off from work, I woke up at 5:30AM, excited to face the day and a photographic adventure. Originally I intended to wake up at 6, eat something and head to Iao Valley State Park when they opened at 7AM. Waking up at 5:30 set all of that in motion just a tad earlier than I had anticipated.
Sitting in the parking lot at the base of Iao Needle in the darkness is not something I’d like to do too often, but I was adamant about getting a specific photograph today. I literally “pictured” it in my mind. Waiting for the first rays of sunlight to pierce the sky, alone in my truck, my mind began to wonder about the legends and battles that took place in this infamous valley.
The picture below was the shot I had in mind yesterday when I made plans to head to Iao Valley…
Now that I’m more mobile I find myself looking for adventures and situations to take photographs of. A few weeks back I shot our work holiday party for a few hours. It was mainly prom style posed shots for team members and their guests, and all the proceeds went towards charity. I have shot these events for the past 3 years (sometimes with the help of Jonny Hooks) and have run into lighting issues every year. The challenges I run into can be corrected in the editing process…most of the time.
Thursday morning I am planning on going on a guided hike just outside the boundary of Haleakala National Park in hopes of photographing native birds of Hawaii.
I left Iao Valley and on the way home, stopped by the Kealia boardwalk. I took the camera with me, but I really just wanted to get a little bit more exercise. Today was a good day.
While I finish this blog and get ready head to bed (working early in the morning) my neighborhood has come alive with the soothing sounds of fireworks…my personalized white noise machines.
As the year comes to a close, I wish nothing but the best to you and yours.
